Frequently Asked Questions about Battleship Iowa Museum

What are the hours of operation?
The Battleship Iowa Museum opens daily at 10:00 am with the last ticket for entry sold at 4:00 pm. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Is the museum accessible?
Because the battleship was built in 1943, the museum is unfortunately not ADA accessible. However, if given advanced notice arrangements can be made for visitors with mobility requirements. There are many obstacles on the ship including uneven decking, high door frames, and many sets of stairs. Access is permitted for wheelchairs during most sea conditions except when the ship is experiencing unusually high tides. Visitors with wheelchairs, canes, and walkers should be extra careful and may consider staying on the main deck during their visits.

Is this museum ideal for children?
Yes. The Battleship Iowa Museum has multiple interactive exhibits and activities designed with children in mind.

However, parents are asked to accompany children at all times. This is for their safety and the safety of others aboard the historic battleship. We ask that children and their parents do not run at any point during the tour or while onboard.

Are strollers allowed on the ship?
Strollers parking is available on board Battleship IOWA Museum, but are not permitted on the majority of the tour route. For small children, the use of a front carrier (Baby Bjorn-type carrier) is suggested.

There are several stairs and obstacles on the tour. Children may not be carried up stairs unless they are in a front-facing carrier. If they are not in a carrier and cannot climb the stairs safely on their own, then the child and a guardian must remain on the main deck of the ship.

Do I have to pay to park?
Yes. Parking is available adjacent to the battleship by entering at 1st Street and Harbor Boulevard. The first hour is free, each additional hour is $2 with a maximum of $16 per day.
